When will I start feeling my baby move?

With my first pregnancy, I started to feel Valentina move at around the third month. Move, in quotation marks, because it felt more like someone had put a popcorn machine inside my belly: little "pops" at random moments throughout the day.

As time went by, my baby thought she was a gymnast, specially at night. Super fun. More so when the only thing you want is sleep.

However, with my second pregnancy it was different. I could barely feel Matteo. I got to the fifth month of pregnancy and started getting worried about so much stillness. Still, every medical appointment confirmed that baby boy was fine.

Fast forward to present day, and it seems as though each kid's behavior in tummy was an indicator of their personality: Matteo is very serene, but Valentina is fire!

So, what's "normal"? When are we supposed to start feeling our baby move when pregnant?

According to the American Pregnancy Association, "there is a broad range of when the first detection of movement can be felt, ranging from 13-25 weeks". Of course, this will vary from one woman to the next, and from pregnancy to another.

The source here mentioned adds that "beginning with week 28, it is beneficial to begin counting your baby’s movements. This will help you to identify potential problems and can also be a great bonding experience between you and your baby". It's important to emphasize that if you notice any change in the frecuency of movement, visit your doctor.

There you go, every tummy is unique, and every baby is different, don't freak out. But, as I always like to advise you, don't hesitate to talk to your doctor to address any doubts and/or concerns.

In the mean time, enjoy this stage! And try to get some sleep! Because it will be a thing of the past when baby comes!

Blessings, mommies!
